IPL - International Premier League

Finally Indians can be proud of having a International sporting event IPL and more happy in conducting the event overseas making it a truly international.Great that LalithModi commissioner of IPL is helping South African economy staging the IPL in SA. India in all probability will transport some 1000+ people including players for various teams and take care of them for the 45 day long tournament meant for Indian Domestic Cricketers.

One should really appreciate BCCI and IPL for somehow making sure that the IPL season-2 is stagged and Modi has pointed out that he wants this event to go on as he does not want to disappoint the Indian public and feels that the core audience are the TV viewers, hence season-2 will also be a big hit and he also feels that IPL will become popular in SA and improve the viewership for the season-3.

Two issues gets solved by stagging the IPL in SA
1)Govt need not worry about security
2)BCCI will not disappoint the Indian public even though the stadiums are empty as its primarily for TV viewers.

There were some great comments from few Modi critics that if the objective is provide entertainment to the Indian TV Viewers we could hold the tournament here in india with closed stadiums, we will provide security only for the players so the government is also happy and there is no need for extra security personnel. In this case both the issues will get solved and the game will also be played in India and the thousands of dollars would not go out of the country.

Now as a true CSK fan, i am disappointed that we may not get to watch cricket from MAC stadium but like all the other fans we will at least be able to watch in TV. CSK has the best balance and has a captain with AC and this time around we should be able to win the cup. I think CSK management has a very good problem to have, they have all the great guys from around the world and they can pick only 4 a game. With Hayden,Hussey,AlbieMorkel,Freddie,Murali,Ntini its a challenge to pick the right combination for a given match.

Lets hope Dhoni brings the DLF IPL trophy to Chennai as he did for India in the T20 World Cup.

Vasu,

IPL on SET MAX is the first disaster for this year. Doubling the price for telecast rights means, doubling of ads during the matches ! Proves Modi does not mean it when he says 'fans come first'. Plus, no highlights robs off any meaningful way of following it. No point ranting on this.

Coming to CSK, your blog is a place where we look for objective assessment than fan's heart-cry of 'cup is ours'. This time other teams are more balanced (RCB really is with KP, Ryder, Ross Taylor, Steyn, Uthappa etc). Then the usual form factor and reversal of fortunes from last time :o) Please post an assessment of the teams.

CSK is still a strong team on paper and I guess it will be Hayden, 2 out of Flintoff/Oram/Morkel and Murali playing most matches. I dont see how Hussey can come in unless Hayden sits out. Yes, it is very balanced with Vijay, Raina, Badri, Dhoni, Goni, Balaji, Vidyut/Abhinav completing the line up. I wish they dont pick Parthiv to open and let Dhoni field. M Vijay, of what I have seen, can be very aggressive to partner Hayden.

CSK is a great team to support. How about a trip to SA if CSK makes it to SF ?!

Yes Rajesh, its not going to be as easy as last time with Bangalore,Hyderabad and Mumbai (to an extend) losing out from the run up to the last four very early.I feel that KKR and DD teams have the least chance this time with both don't have the right combination.

Sure will write a post on various teams combination.I feel CSK is well positioned with the addition of Flintoff and Morkel in great touch. One big problem for us is the opening spot, i doubt if parthiv can contribute much in SA wickets.I would prefer Anirudh or Vidyuth for parthiv.Given that Hussey is totally out of form he might get few games early on and the team management will take a call.

CSK bowling is the weak link, murali did not do that well last time. Murali was sure to give the all important six when ever the batsmen needed and sort of had a very ordinary tournament last year and SA wickets are not going help him much.
